California. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
On this date in the Golden State lawyer, Bruce Albion Bailey, Xsquire resigned his membership in the State Bar of California with disciplinary charges pending against him.
Bailey was admitted to the State Bar of California on January 17, 1956 after many years toiling at Stanford University and Stanford University Law School.
Publicly available information indicates Bailey was a “colorful” character. He was a supporter of the Stanford Wrestling team and endorsed by the gay community.
In 1993, Bailey welched on a deal to pay another lawyer, John Del Bino, one third of the proceeds, plus actual costs incurred, related to a medical malpractice case Bailey had inherited from Del Bino. The parties later settled their fee dispute with Bailey agreeing to pay Del Bino $70,000, in fourteen monthly installments of at least $5,000 each plus interest. Bailey later defaulted on the obligation and declared bankruptcy in order to discharge the principal balance of $46,539.73. The bankruptcy court found in Del Bino’s favor. Bailey sucessfully appealed.
The details of the charges pending against Bailey at the time of his resignation have not been publically disclosed by the Cal BarFOONS. We of course are interested in learning all we can about Mr. Bailey to enable our Bored to determine whether his behavior is meritous of our inducting him into the EEBA as an interminable member.
