California. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Janet Ann Galeno, Esquirette (age 58) of Foster City, California has been nom­i­nated by the State Bar of California for induc­tion into the Evil Esquire Bar Association as an asso­ciate mem­ber. On February 25, 2009, Galeno was dis­barred by the California State Bar Court and ordered to ordered to inform her clients, oppos­ing coun­sel and ‘inter­ested third par­ties” that the cor­rupt nitwits at the CalBar relieved her of her lawyer­ing license.

Here’s the text of the CalBar’s nom­i­na­tion as pub­lished in the California Bar Journal.

In a default pro­ceed­ing, the State Bar Court found that Galeno failed to com­ply with pro­ba­tion con­di­tions attached to a 2006 dis­ci­pli­nary order: she failed to sub­mit quar­terly reports, make timely ini­tial con­tact with the Office of Probation, and meet with the pro­ba­tion office.

She had stip­u­lated that she prac­ticed law while sus­pended, col­lected an ille­gal fee and failed to release client files or coop­er­ate with the bar’s inves­ti­ga­tion. She also admit­ted that she dis­obeyed a court order by fail­ing to com­ply with con­di­tions of an ear­lier probation.

She had been sus­pended a year ear­lier for sim­i­lar mis­con­duct, includ­ing prac­tic­ing law while not active, col­lect­ing an ille­gal fee and mis­rep­re­sent­ing to her client that she was eli­gi­ble to prac­tice, com­mit­ting an act of moral turpitude.

In rec­om­mend­ing dis­bar­ment, Judge Lucy Armendariz pointed to Galeno’s prior sim­i­lar mis­con­duct, writ­ing, “pro­ba­tion and sus­pen­sion appear to have proven inad­e­quate to deter future misconduct.”

Speculating, Galeno must have refused to leave off a big bag of cash with the folks at the bar share which, as we here at the EEBA know is what really leads to a lawyer being dis­barred in California.
