New Jersey. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Word came today from the Garden State that a grand jury indicted Russell G. Cheek, Esquire [#101412] a/k/a Cheeky Cheek, charging him with theft and misapplication of entrusted property– $45,600– belonging to a victim client– Ralph W. Hulmin.
Cheeky Cheek, who once served as Municipal Court Judge in Howell, New Jersey was disbarred on May 8, 2008.
Cheeky is a repeat offender of the Rules of ‘Professional’ Conduct. Predictably, he veered off the professional “reservation” every three years. He was suspended on July 5, 2006 for three months, admonished in 1996; reprimanded in 1999 and suspended for three months in 2003.
The New Jersey Bar sure is patient with attorney miscrents. But why should they care? They weren’t directly affected by Cheeky’s misconduct. After all Cheeky was a member of their drinking club.
If convicted, Cheeky could recive a prision term of up to five years.
Are Cheeky’s clients victims satisfied with the handling of their complaints to the New Jersey Bar Overseers?
Were there instances of misconduct by Mr. Cheek that weren’t addressed by Office of Attorney “Ethics”?

I’d like to know if there is anything you all can do to guide me toward help. I, also, am a victim/former client of Mr. Cheek. He represented us in sale of of a house. To be brief: my sister owned half of a house in NJ. The other half was her step-mothers. The step-mother died owing $90,000.00 to medicare who had put a lien on the house. The deal was that the daughter of the step-mother was to pay out that lien from her half of the profit of sale. Cheek was supposed to handle this but never did. We expect he pocketed the money. The lien isn’t paid so now my sister is stuck with a house with a huge lien. Don’t know if anyone can help but would like to see this guy put in prison for the rest of his life.
I have a story to tell Re: Russell Cheek, Esq. This event took place back in 1999. I had a personal injury case against a homeowner. The sidewalk was damaged due to a tree root that grew too large.
Six days after I broke my foot on the sidewalk, Russell Cheek notified the homeowners. They then had the sidewalk repaired in exactly 6 days after my injury. I waited months to hear from Mr. Cheek and he kept ignoring my phone calls.
Finally when I would speak with him, he would tell me that he was too busy to be bothered with me. Two years later, we finally went to a mediation hearing and he told me that the homeowner had died and he had no way of knowing who the beneficiary was to file a suit against.
He was obviously paid off by the homeowner because the homeowner that owned the property when I was injured is still residing in that house today.
He stole my money and when I reported him to the Ethics Committee, they told me that he hadn’t done anything wrong. They protected him while he was stealing people’s money.
They should also be held liable for all the crimes Mr. Cheek committed.
Now, there’s nothing anyone can do to get reimbursed for all the monies he stole.
My incident happened in 1999. This means that, most likely, this jerk has been stealing from his clients his entire career.
May he burn in hell !!
