New Jersey. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
On this date, in the Garden State, the Supreme Court of New Jersey disbarred Ben J. Zander as a result of his criminal conviction in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey arising out of activities as in-house counsel for Meridian Benefit, Inc., a third-party health plan administrator.
Herr Zander’s conviction arose out of his involvement in a health plan administration company’s scheme to defraud 2,017 victims out of over $24,500,000. He acted as an accessory after the fact to mail fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C.A. §3.
Richard J. Engelhardt, Esquire appeared before the Supreme Court for the Office of Attorney Ethics. Herr Zander waived appearance. Perhaps he was “tied-up?”
Mr. Zander is a repeat offender of the Rules of ‘Professional’ Conduct. He was admonished in 2004 and temporarily suspended from practice in 2005.
Have any of Mr. Zander’s clients injured as a consequence of his actions? If so, are those who were injured satisfied with the discipline imposed in this case? Has restitution been made?
Have there been any other instances of misconduct by Mr. Zander that haven’t been addressed by Office of Attorney Ethics?
