California. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
On this date in the Golden State the illustrious State Bar of California suspended (interim) James M. Kummerer, age 62, of Columbus, Indiana after he was convicted of felony cocaine possession. He’d been charged with conspiracy to deal cocaine and possession of more than three grams. The charges were enhanced because at the time of his arrest he was within 1,000 feet of a school.
James was admitted to the State Bar of California on January 5, 1972. He attended Indiana University and obtained his law degree from the University of San Diego.
In their infinite wisdom, the lawyers at the State Bar of California Bar don’t suspend an attorney just because he or she have been charged with a felony. And they don’t disbar them until their appeals have been exhausted so James’ license to practice crime err law in California is just resting for now.
