James Kummerer, Esquire | IN THE PIPELINE

Cal­i­for­nia.  Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

On this date in the Golden State the illus­tri­ous State Bar of Cal­i­for­nia sus­pended (interim) James M. Kum­merer, age 62, of Colum­bus, Indi­ana after he was con­victed of felony cocaine pos­ses­sion.  He’d been charged with con­spir­acy to deal cocaine and pos­ses­sion of more than three grams.  The charges were enhanced because at the time of his arrest he was within 1,000 feet of a school.

James was admit­ted to the State Bar of Cal­i­for­nia on Jan­u­ary 5, 1972.  He attended Indi­ana Uni­ver­sity and obtained his law degree from the Uni­ver­sity of San Diego.

In their infi­nite wis­dom, the lawyers at the State Bar of Cal­i­for­nia Bar don’t sus­pend an attor­ney just because he or she have been charged with a felony.  And they don’t dis­bar them until their appeals have been exhausted so James’ license to prac­tice crime err law in Cal­i­for­nia is just rest­ing for now.
