Berkeley. Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
Newz from the People’s Republic of Berkeley– 17.7 square miles surrounded by semi-reality– and the firm of Ramsey Ehrlich, “Advisers to Justice Evaders” where we understand Miles Ehrlich has a new client– Scott E. Cavell, age 27 of Sacramento.
Cavell was indicted, March 12, 2009 along with co-conspirator Christopher J. Warren, age 26, of Folsom, by a Federal Grand Jury for $7 million fraud, money laundering and identity theft scheme.
Warren was apprehended re-entering the US, in Buffalo New York with $70,000 stuffed in his cowboy boots.
Cavell, Ehrlich’s client, of course has yet to be apprehended and is believed to have left the country. Given Ramsey Ehrlich’s political connections and ties to significant criminal organizations, we strongly doubt Cavell will ever be caught or that if he is, that he won’t be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
For those not in the know, Ehrlich and his “partner” Ismail Jomo Ramsey, Esquire are both former deputy U.S. attorneys. Ehrlich was the head of the white collar crime division of the US Attorney’s northern California office. He resigned during the fall of 2005 to hang out a shingle with Ramsey to advise justice evaders.
During the last year of his stint at the DOJ Ehrlich was infamously involved (or not involved) in the non-prosecutions of Ginthia Daniel Ramsey, Ismail’s brother, and Marcia Hatch (wife of Seamus Hatch), then a partner at Heller Ehrman. She’s now with Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian LLP.
In the later case Ehrlich, in possession of confidential information regarding fraud, conspiracy to launder money, narcotics trafficking, identity theft, bribing judicial officials, etc. took the victim-complainant’s information, left the employ of the US Government, and heretofore has successfully facilitated Ms. Hatch and her co-conspirators evasion of justice at, of course, the victims’ expense. Acting U.S. Attorney Lawrence Brown, quoted by Don Thompson of the Associated Press, “The scope and brazenness of the criminal conduct carried out by these two mortgage brokers over just two months astounds.”
News flash Larry, that’s nothing, what’s astounding is that an Assistant United States attorney is allowed to take confidential information regarding criminal acts and the identities of the perpetrators, leave the employ of the government and use that information to intimidate the victim and assist his client, one of the individuals the victim identified to the AUSA, to evade justice. That’s astounding!
That is simply unbelievable. We’re taught in Professional Responsibility that it might even be unseemly and on the edge of dodginess to even use the CONTACTS you had as a government attorney. Basically, to even rely on the knowledge base you earned of “who” to talk to in government, etc. Let alone the confidential, propriety government information regarding actual cases they were (are) working on. And I worry about a bad credit score (with no history of fraud, etc.) affecting my ability to pass the Bar. Oh my God.
Thanks Heather. School is theory. Practice is POLITICS and CASH… particularly in California. Attorneys are a significant source of political donations. #1 among democrats. Senator Barbara Boxer of California is informed of this situation but to our knowledge has done nothing. The attorney general Jerry MOONSHOT Brown is informed but he’s done nothing… to our knowledge. The State Bar of California– they take CASH and according to our sources, Marcia Hatch’s narcotics trafficking friend had a room dedicated to storing his. Politicians need pocket money too. Cash can buy a lot of folks… particularly when its handed out by partners at big a once powerful law firm like Heller Ehrman. Now Marica has moved on to Gunderson Dettmer. Not big but powerful and connected.
I’ve known Scott since he was a baby. I know his mom and father. My guess was that Scott was living on his father’s sailboat near the Illikai in Waikiki Beach. But I think he’s smarter than that. I’ll bet he’ll marry a girl from Brazil and stay there permanently.
Scott Cavell’s best friend and former roommate was C. Anthony Hughes. They both learned the art of phony appraisals, phony applications, straw men and kickbacks at close of escrow. I’ll bet Anthony knows where his best friend is hiding. Anthony lives somewhere on 52nd Street (that’s also where Scott was renting a room) and works at 1101 Fulton Avenue.
Any updates here? Is Cavell still on the lamb?
He hasn’t been apprehended to our knowledge. Ramsey-Ehrlich are very good at aiding and abetting clients to evade prosecution. They’re very well connected politically.
Scott is much to smart to ever be caught, if he does get caugt it will be because he wants to. I have known him for years and know that he is all business. Anyways I wish you the best of luck trying to find him, you will probably need it.
