Lawyer legislators in the Mountian State have deemed it prudent not to require their Esquire(tte)s to carry malpractice insurance. Of course this serves attorneys because it reduces their practice costs while enabling them to continue to charge at rates comparable to insured Esqs. That coupled with their ability to limit personal liability by incorporating their practices provides and excellent haven from pesky victims clients for our Evil brethern among the Mountian state’s mountains.

On this date in the Hoosier State, the Indiana Supreme Court disbarred lawyer Robert E. Lehman for committing the federal felony of willfully making a false tax return. Lehman did not challenge the Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission’s complaint for disciplinary action and the Hearing Officer, Cynthia S. Emkes, found Lehman violated the Inidiana Rules of Professional Conduct prohibiting the commission of a “criminal act that reflects adversely on a lawyer’s honesty, trustworthiness, or fitness as a lawyer in other respects and engaging in conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation and other stuff California lawyers can get by with.

The Judge handling Heller Ehrman’s bankruptcy has apparently denied Heller’s shareholder’s motion to pay the firm’s malpractice insurance premium. We’re stunned there’s someone in the judicial system they haven’t corrupted. And of course amused that instead of digging into the creditor’s pockets for cash to pay the premium Heller Shareholders will just have to dig into their own.
