Alabama.  Hear Ye! Hear Ye!
On this date in the Yel­lowham­mer State, the Alabama State Bar sus­pended x-Judge Her­man Young Thomas’ bar tend­ing license as a con­se­quence of his indict­ment, by a Mobile County grand jury last week on charges rang­ing from kid­nap­ping and sex abuse to sodomy and extor­tion– 57-counts in all.

Judge Ralph Eriksson | [REPRIMANDED]

Newz from the Semi­nole State. Yes­ter­day, the state’s “Judi­cial Qual­i­fi­ca­tions Com­mis­sion” met to decide the fate of Semi­nole County Judge Ralph Eriks­son, age 61, who, increased Bob Lee Wal­ton III bail to $10,000 and jailed him in order to pun­ish his lawyer. The com­mis­sion also found, the judge turned away peo­ple who were request­ing domes­tic vio­lence injunc­tions, that were not rep­re­sented by lawyers, by mis­lead­ing them into believ­ing they needed wit­nesses to sup­port their testimony.

Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan– Xudges

On this date in the state of “Virtue, Lib­erty and Inde­pen­dence” Judge Mark A. Ciavarella and Judge Michael T. Cona­han plead guilty to wire and income tax fraud related to their receipt of $2.6 mil­lion in kick­backs they attempted to con­ceal using a Florida com­pany they controlled.

For six years Judge Mark A. Ciavarella, Jr. doled out unusu­ally harsh sen­tences to juve­nile “offend­ers” pass­ing through his court­room while co-conspirator, Judge Michael T. Cona­han arranged kick­backs from PA Child Care and West­ern PA Child Care— both pri­vately oper­ated youth deten­tion cen­ters— to remand approx­i­mately 5,000 juve­niles into their custody.
