Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger yesterday announced his veto of Senate Bill 641, introduced by Senator Ellen Corbett (D) from San Leandro to authorize the State Bar of California to continue to collecting membership dues of $315 next year. [SB 641]

Bar Buffoonery Digest: Pennsylvania

The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has exclusive jurisdiction over the admission and discipline of all attorneys practicing in the state. The Pennsylvania Board of Bar Examiners administers the admission process. The filing fee is $50. For Esquires interested in acquiring an “engrossed, wall-sized certificate” the cost is $50.

On September 7th, 2008 the California Bar “disciplined” Elisa Ann Castro for failing to perform legal services competently, refusing to refund unearned fees, refusing to cooperate with State Bar investigators and failing to take actions necessary to avoid her clients being prejudiced in the course of legal actions.

Steven Lever, Esquire | SUSPENDED huh?

On this date in the Empire State, Steven J. Lever, Esquire, an intellectual property attorney, formerly with Kirkland & Ellis in New York City, was suspended by the New York bar after attempting to arrange a meeting “to engage in an oral sexual act” with a female he believed to be 13 years old– via an Internet chat room– in 2004.
